First, Louis-Émile Cormier, a local naturalist led a tour of the marina, part of which is composed of a filled marshland. The marina is a very important place for birds; especially for migratory birds. Mr. Cormier explained the importance and placement of tree swallow boxes and osprey platforms. In addition, he explained the importance of keeping wildflowers and dead trees (snags) so that birds can nest.

Then there was a snack of local products: salad with wild flowers, dried tomatoes, Jerusalem artichoke with 2 dips (hot pepper and lovage), a rhubarb crisp with local and organic products, and lilac nectar. Thank you to Spirale Farm and Marcel Goguen Farm in Cocagne!

The second part of the evening was a discussion with Robert Capozi, specialist with the Climate Change Secretariat, NB Department of Environment and Local Government. First, he presented climate projections, as well as risks for our region. Afterwards, the participants discussed among other things the adaptation of wharfs, risk management and insurance, building permits and the need to discuss with elected officials.

The discussion series like the ‘Walk and Talk’ on climate change solutions are continuing this fall and results will feed into the Cocagne Watershed Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
