Cocagne Community Garden
Hello fellow gardeners,
The start of the season at the Cocagne Community Garden is here. Thank you to the Municipality of Beausoleil and our donors for their financial contributions to our food initiative. Thank you to the landowners, Imelda and Benoît Bourque, for their support over the past 12 years.
The garden will officially open on Sunday, May 10, 2026. We ask community garden plot renters to come meet with us between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to pay their membership fees. Plots are rented for 11 cents per square foot. There are still vacant plots available for the 2026 season. We provide access to gardening tools, compost, and irrigation. At the opening, our horticultural coordinator, Karine Lapointe, will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have about gardening. Additionally, for those interested in pest and weed prevention methods, we still have one roll of insect netting and one roll of black mulch.
Is the cost of seeds keeping you from starting a vegetable garden? We have a solution for you. Did you know that the Saint-Antoine Library has a seed library? With your library card, you can borrow 20 packets of seeds per year. Thank you to the participating volunteers, the In Giardino Gardening Club, and the seed suppliers.
The Walipini greenhouse has completed its first full year! We have a solar air heater to warm the soil and LED lights to optimize plant growth. We produced around 165 pounds of lettuce in 2025–2026 for our schools and community partners. If you’d like to grow plants under cover, renting a 27“ by 96” planter costs $35 per year.
Would you like to help us with our initiative? Come visit us at the garden and follow us on social media. The gardening team is on site Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April through November.
