Cocagne Community Garden
Hello dear gardeners,
Dear community members,
The Cocagne Community Garden has some great news to announce! Even with the drought, we had a great harvest of onions and potatoes this year!! Our 4-season greenhouse (Walipini) has provided us with beautiful leafy greens for our community partners. Thank you to the landowners; Imelda and Benoît Bourque, who support us continuously in our vision of food sovereignty in Cocagne.
This season, we harvested 5479.4 pounds of vegetables from the garden. This includes carrots, cabbages, beans, peppers, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips and kale. In the Walipini we have produced 149.5 pounds in spinach, kale, salads, swiss-chard, celery, bok-choy, radish, etc. We are proud to help L’École Blanche-Bourgeois, the Bien Vieillir Chez Soi meal program, and the Shediac Food Bank in their alimentation initiatives.
A big thank you to the volunteers and students of L’École Blanche-Bourgeois who helped with the harvest, as well as the Cocagneries and the Centre 50 for their help with the two fundraising dinners for the community garden. Our initiative’s success would not be the same without you!
We invite the tenants of the Cocagne Community Garden, as well as anyone interested, for a meeting at Center 50, from 5pm to 7pm, on February 23rd, and in case of a storm; on February 25th. We will discuss the 2025 season, and our future projects in the garden. This will be followed by a potluck dinner and a workshop. More information to come!
Thank you to the participants of the Seed Bank of Saint-Antoine Library. If you want to donate heritage seeds to increase the diversity of our shared collection, you can drop them off at the Seed Bank of Omer-Léger Library or contact our team.
NOTICE to farmers and large-scale gardeners! There is still space at the Community Root-Cellar in our modules. For those who wish to store their products long term; between 3-4 months. We have the option of 430 or 610 liters for $20/each.
