Cocagne - The Cocagne Community Garden presents its autumn newsletter for the 2024 season.
Hello, dear gardeners,
the mandate of the Cocagne Community Garden is to contribute to the development of the collective solidarity of the community's citizens towards natural, healthy and sustainable food self-sufficiency.
The entire garden team would like to thank Scott Strong for building our beautiful 4-season greenhouse (walipini). We have 18 8' long growing bins and will soon be adding a solar system for lights and heating. We would also like to thank all our students and volunteers for their help during the harvest. We'd also like to thank landowners Imelda and Benoît Bourque for supporting us in reducing food insecurity in our region!
With a dry summer, we were able to harvest 4374.30 pounds in the collective garden for our community partners. We're confident that with the new underground greenhouse, the 2025 harvest will be even more bountiful. This year, we added beehives thanks to Brian Pond of Bee Pond & Son Apiaries. Gardeners and flowers alike have enjoyed the presence of his bees all summer long.
Do you need more space to store your vegetables? We still have space available in the community cellar near Centre 50 à Cocagne. You can rent a pallet space (3'X3') for $20 for 5-6 months. There are already 5 community organizations and 3 individuals using the community cellar.
